Project hours can be approved directly in Cost Tracker where project owners can verify time approvers can verify and approve project time - the hours worked by their team on the projects that they manage. This simplifies the process for a project owner to approve logged hours and for team leads to acknowledge the validity of the time spent on their projects.

Activating Project Time Approval for Cost Tracker Projects

The Project Approval option can be enabled for Tempo Cost Tracker and activated for Tempo projects. This requires administrators to enable it at the organization level for the application and project owners to activate it for their projects:

  • Tempo settings: An administrator with Tempo administrator permissions can activate the option for Cost Tracker.

  • Project configuration: Project owners can enable the feature for their individual projects.

Enable the Project Time Approval Option for Cost Tracker

  1. In Tempo Settings, scroll down to Project Time Approval in the Approvals section.

  2. Click to Enable Project Time Approval.

    When enabled, project owners can activate the option to approve logged time.

This allows project time approvers and team leaders to ensure that only time spent on their project is counted.

To approve project hours in Financial Manager:

  1. Enable Project Time Approval in Tempo Settings for the organization.

  2. Enable it for individual Financial Manager projects.

Project Time Approvers

By default, a project owner is a project time approver. Any additional team members added to your project must have the Viewer permission or higher to approve time.

When a team member submits their project time for approval, the default approver is selected automatically, but the team member can submit their project time to any approver for the project.

Before You Begin

  • To modify Tempo Settings, you must have Tempo administrator permissions

  • To modify Financial Manager project settings, you must be a Financial Manager user with Project owner permissions for the project.

  • A Tempo Administrator can enable project time approval by default.

Enable Project Time Approval for the Organization in Tempo Settings

You must first enable Project Time Approval for all Financial Manager projects. After it’s enabled, the option is visible and available to all projects.

  1. Navigate to Settings.

  2. Under the Tempo Projects section, select Project Features.

  3. Toggle Enable Project Time Approval.

Financial Manager project owners can now view and enable Project Time Approval for their projects.

Enable Project Time Approval for Projects

If the option Project Time Approval option is not visible in your project’s configuration, it must be enabled in Tempo Settings first for your organization.

  1. In Financial Manager, select the project for which you want to approve project hours.

  2. Click on the Configuration tab.

  3. In the General section, scroll down to the Project Time Approval

  4. Toggle Project Time Approvaland click to activate it for this project.

    A confirmation message notifies you that the feature is now activated.

  6. The Approvals tab in the top right is added to your Tempo project. Click the tab to access the project time approval workflow.

As an administrator, you can turn off the Enable Project Time Approval feature for all Cost Tracker projects.

A message will be displayed notifying you that the approval data will no longer be visible.

Note

When the Project Time Approval feature is disabled at the organization level in Tempo Settings, the option is no longer available at the project level for Cost Tracker projects.

If Project Time Approval is disabled on the organization level, the option is not available to Financial Manager projects, and the Approvals tab is hidden.

A Project Owner can disable Project Time Approval for your individual Financial Manager projects in your project configuration, or a Tempo administrator can disable the option for the entire organization.
