The log time procedure has been simplified, making it even easier and faster to log time. To streamline the process, optional fields are now hidden by default – with the exception of the Description field. If you need to record more than just date and time, optional fields are easily accessible by clicking Show hidden fields. Furthermore, you can configure which fields to hide and show and also arrange the order of fields to make the process of logging time the most convenient for you. Finally, the search for issues has been improved, helping you to quickly find the tasks on which you need to log time.
Simplified Log Time Form
Focusing on the fields that are required and hiding information you do not need lets you log your time quickly and effortlessly.
- By default, Issue, date, and time spent is now the only information required to complete a time record. When you log time in the Jira issue view or on plans and calendar events in My Work, Issue and Date are automatically populated so the only thing you need to enter is time spent on the issue.
- Where start and end times are needed, click Set start and end time and fill in the fields. When you create a time record with start and end time, Tempo remembers the setting and shows the start and end time fields the next time you open the Log Time form.
- Entering a work description is optional by default. If you don't need this field, you can hide it. Click the settings icon to the upper-right and configure the Log Time form to your liking.
- Missing some fields? Click Show optional fields to access more fields.
Configurable Log Time Form
Configure the new Log Time form according to your preferences so that you can log time with minimum effort. Select which optional fields should be visible in the form and in what order.

- Move fields to the desired location. You can arrange the order of both visible and hidden fields.
- The number of required fields depends on your organization's needs and they are always visible in the Log Time form. You can rearrange their order as desired, for example if you want date and time to be at the top of the form, but you cannot hide required fields.
- Administrators can also make additional fields required, all in accordance with your organization's needs. For example, if understanding how much effort is left in an iteration or a plan, you can make the Remaining estimate field mandatory. Each time when a time is logged, the team member needs to evaluate how much work is still left of that item so that the team has accurate status of how the iteration is going.
Improved Issue Search
Finding the correct issue has never been so easy. The new Log Time form introduces a completely new way of searching for issues, allowing you to search, filter or combine these two functions. Tempo also suggests issues based on your activities when logging time. The default list of issues is sorted with suggestions at the top followed by your recently visited issues in Jira. Furthermore, using the issue search and filters will also display suggestions at the top that best fit your query.
- Suggestions are labelled and flagged with a lightning bolt.
- To narrow down your search, apply filters. In this example the list has been filtered by favorite issues and a project filter is being applied.
- You can select which filters are available in the form. Only show the filters that you commonly use when searching for issues and arrange their order.
