Jira Team managed (former Next-Gen) projects

Question

Does Tempo support Team managed (former next-gen) projects?

Answer

Atlassian has introduced a new type of Jira projects: the Team managed (Next-Gen) project. Team managed projects are easier in the setup and should help customers to get started quicker and reduce administration efforts.

Team managed projects have several limitations that effects the usage within Tempo as well. These limitations include missing Jira project permissions, missing Jira workflows and very limited capabilities to add Jira custom fields to the Jira issues within a Team managed project.

Atlassian rolled out Tempo project permissions and Tempo Custom fields in its Jira Team managed projects. These make it much easier for you to create, manage and report on Tempo data in Jira Team managed projects.

Note:

These settings are being rolled out gradually and if these settings are still not available to you, they should be so within the next few weeks.

That means for Tempo users:

  1. Tempo permissions can now be configured inside the Team managed project. Details can be found here.

  2. The Tempo Account field (Jira custom field) can now be set on a Jira issue within the Jira issue screen. Follow these steps:

    1. Create a new or go to any existing Team managed project;

    2. Go to Project Settings → Apps;

    3. Click Account;

    4. Link an Account in the main page as you would do with Classic projects;

    5. Go to Project Settings → Apps → App fields and enable "Timesheets";

    6. Go to Project Settings → Issue Types and set the Account field in the issue type.

3. The Tempo Team field (Jira custom field) can be linked to Team managed projects in Tempo Teams pages. Then go to Project Settings → Issue Types and set the Team field in the issue type.
