How to disable Jira's Log Work module on Data Center?

Questions

  • Why are we still able to log more than 8 hours' work in an issue view by clicking More - Log Work, if we already set the "Maximum hours per day per user" to 8 hours?

  • Why can worklogs be created without selecting a work attribute, even if the attribute is required?

Answer

This seems to be a confusion between Jira's Log Work and Tempo's Log Time. The "Maximum hours per day per user" and work attributes  are part of Tempo and apply only to worklogs created via the Tempo Log Time dialog. The "Log Work" menu is Jira's functionality and is out of Tempo's control. One way to solve this problem is to disable the Jira log work module following the steps below:

1. Log in as a Jira administrator and select Administration —> Add-ons —> Manage add-ons
2. Select System from the add-on filter list
3. Expand the modules in Issue Operation Plugin
4. Disable the "View Issue Ops Bar Work Link" module

This way users will only see Tempo's Log Time menu.

It is also possible to disable the Jira Work Log tab in the Activity section of issues
With this tab disabled, users can not edit worklogs in Jira. Editing worklogs can be done in Tempo views.

  1. Log in as a JIRA administrator and select Administration —> Add-ons —> Manage add-ons

  2. Select System from the add-on filter list

  3. Expand the modules in Issue Tab Panels Plugin

  4. Disable the "Work Log Tab Panel" module
