Logging Time in Jira Issues - Tempo Cloud

When you're working in Jira all day, it's very convenient to be able to log your time right in the issue on which you're working! Tempo makes it easy for you to log your time - and more - in the Tempo Panel that's available in the Jira issue view.

In the Tempo panel, you can log your time, edit the time records, and view the time record data for the issue, ordered by date. You can quickly filter the data you view in the Tempo panel to display all issue data, or only your own. 

If you have the View All Worklogs permission for the project, you can also access Tempo Reports directly from the panel to view issue worklog data for any period you choose. Simply click the ellipsis  to the right of the Log Work button, and then select Issue Worklogs.


If you have only Tempo Timesheets installed, plans and plan time options will not be displayed in the Tempo panel, and vice versa if you have only Tempo Planner installed.

Displaying the Tempo Panel

Tempo is not displayed by default when you open a Jira issue. Add-ons are accessed from the Quick-add action bar, located directly below the issue summary. Depending on your needs, you can select to show or hide the Tempo panel in the Jira issue view.

  1. Open the issue you are working on.
  2. Click the Tempo icon  at the top.

  3. To hide the Tempo panel, click the ellipsis  in the top-right of the panel, and select Hide Tempo.

Viewing worklogs of other users requires the View all worklogs or View team worklogs for the relevant project or team.

You can select to view all worklog data or only your own data in the Tempo Panel. Click the down arrow in the View box and select what to view. 

If you have the View issue hours permission for the project but not the required permissions to view other users' worklogs, you can see the total number of hours per issue in the project, but not see individual worklogs from other users.


  • If you do not have the permission to view the data of other users, the Data Scope options on the View drop-down will not be displayed and you will only be able to view your own data.
  • You will not have the option to view plans unless Tempo Planner is installed.

Time Tracking

To show the Time Tracking section, click Open Tempo on the right side. In the Time Tracking section of the Jira Issue view, the Logged bar indicates the total time that has been logged on the issue. You can log time on the issue by clicking the plus sign and filling in the Log Time dialog box.


The Collaborators section shows the number of hours you have planned for the issue and how many hours you have logged against those plans. If you have the View team worklogs permission, you also see how much time other team members have logged on the issue. To see hours logged by all users in the system, you need the View all worklogs permission.
