Logging Time in the My Work Calendar

Our Cloud Help Center has a new home at https://help.tempo.io/cloud/

We will no longer be updating Cloud documentation in this space, so please be sure to check the new site for the latest documentation and learning content.

Logging time requires the Work on Issues permission for the project to which the issue belongs.

The My Work Calendar is your home base for logging time, and you can do this in different ways. You can log time to issues on any date in the calendar by clicking or dragging issues to the date. You can also log time against your plans and external calendar events.

You can open the Calendar by selecting My Work  in the sidebar and make sure Week is selected at the upper-right.

Watch this video to see how to log your time in the My Work Calendar:

Logging Time by Clicking a Date

  1. You can log time in either the List view (displayed by default) or the Time view of the My Work Calendar:

    - In the List view, hover over any date and click Log Time.

    - In the Time view, click the start time on date where you want to log time, then drag to the end time. You can also simply click on the time where the time record should start.
  2. Fill in the Log Time form, and click Log Time when you are finished.

  3. A time record is created for this issue on this date. To edit it, click the time record and make changes in the Edit Time Record form - see Editing Time Records in My Work.

Logging Time by Dragging Issues from the Side Panel

The Issues side panel at the right contains issues organized by type (from predefined JQL searches). By default, the Issues side panel is collapsed, but Tempo remembers the last state and will display it as it was stored with your preferences. To expand and collapse the Issues side panel, rest the pointer on the panel's border and click when the pointer changes to an arrow. You can configure the Issues side panel to show the issues most relevant to you.

To log time by dragging an issue from the side panel:

  1. To open the issues side panel, click on the < arrow in the middle of the right border of the My Work Calendar
  2. Use the tabs to select what type of issue you want to log time against. You can also use the search box to search for the issue.
For more information about how to use the Issues side panel, see Using the Issues Side Panel.

  3. When you have found the issue you want to log time on, drag it to the desired date.
  4. Fill in the Log Time form, and click Log Time when you are finished.

  5. A time record is created for this issue on this date. To edit it, click the time record and make changes in the Edit Time Record form - see Editing Time Records in My Work.

Logging Time to Your External Calendar Events

If you connect your Google or Office 365 calendars, you can then easily log time to the events in those calendars in My Work.

Tip: Here's how to make logging time even easier: when you're creating your Calendar event, give it a descriptive title to identify it in your time records and add the Jira issue key in the title. Tempo will pick up the issue key, so you can log time to that event in a single click!

To log time on external calendar events:

  1. Click the Calendar event card  you want to log time on.
  2. If needed, make changes to the date, time, and description in the Log Time form, and then click Log Time.
  3. The card becomes a time record  and your time is logged. The event icon turns gray  to indicate the record's origin. If you delete this time record, the original event reappears in the calendar.
  4. To edit the time record, click it and make changes in the Edit Time Record form - see Editing Time Records in My Work.

Logging Time to Your Plans

You can easily log time to any plans that you've created - watch this video to see how:

To log time against plans:

  1. Click the plan card  you want to log time on.
  2. If needed, make changes to the date, time, and description in the Log Time form, and then click Log Time.
  3. The card becomes a time record  and your time is logged. The event icon turns gray  to indicate the record's origin. If you delete this time record, the original plan reappears in the calendar.
  4. To edit the time record, click it and make changes in the Edit Time Record form - see Editing Time Records in My Work.
