Team members can plan time for themselves, either vacation or time off or to work on issues.
Planning time for other team members using the Planned Time form requires the View Plans and Manage Plans permissions for that team.
The Plan Time form opens for you to create a plan when you do any of the following:
Click the Plan Time button in the top-right of the Resource Planning view.
Click the + on a day in the calendar in the Resource Planning view.
Drag across multiple days in the calendar in the Resource Planning view.
Drag an issue from the Issues side panel to a day in the calendar in the Resource Planning view.
Click an existing plan card.
Click Plan Time in the My Work Calendar in Tempo Timesheets.
Select Plan Time from the Tempo panel in a Jira Issue view.
See Planning Time for Resources for more information about creating plans in these ways.
Completing the Planned Time Form
The values you need to enter to plan time will depend on whether or not this is a synced plan.
For synced plans:
Select the issue to sync the plan with.
Enter any missing data from the required sync fields.
For non-synced plans:
Click Issue or Project, depending on whether you want to plan time on an issue or a project.
Planning time on a Project is a great way to do high-level planning for future projects.
Click to select User to Generic Resource type.
Click to Search for a User or a Generic Resource.
Find and select the issue or project on which you want to plan time.
If you're searching by Issue, click in the Search field and use the three tabs, which are the same as in the Issues side panel - see Finding Issues with the Issue Picker.
Enter a Description for the plan. This is optional but may be useful later on, especially if you have several plans on the same issue or project.
Select the Period checkbox to plan work for a period of time, then enter the plan's start Date and End Date which appears.
You can Include non-working days in your plan, such as weekends or holidays. This option appears when you specify a date range that includes non-working days.
If you're not creating a Period plan, select the Date for the plan. This may be filled out already, depending on how you are creating the plan.
If your plan spans more than one year, it's recommended to divide it into two plans. Tempo Planner supports a maximum of one year span per plan.
Enter the number of hours for the plan using either of these methods:
- Enter the hours in the From and To fields if you need to specify which hours are being planned. This is useful for time-sensitive tasks, or simply to plan out your day in detail.
Tip: You can display or hide the From and To fields in this form for all users with the Use start and end times when planning time option in the Planning Time options.
OR
- Enter the number of hours of Planned Time per day if it doesn't matter when the planned hours are in a day. Then select whether these hours are Per day or the Total number of hours. For a period plan, the Total number of hours are distributed evenly over the working days in the period.
Select a Reviewer if you need to have your plan approved, such as when requesting vacation or other time off work - see Approving Plans.
If only one reviewer is available then the reviewer name is pre-selected.
Tempo sends an email notification to the reviewer. The Status of your plan will be Pending until it is either Approved or Rejected.
Click Plan Time and the plan is displayed for you or the resource on those dates in the Resource Planning view.
