Create a new PI Planning board

Select the type of board you want to create. The board creation wizard will help you configure your board.

Planning board templates

See below for a guide to each template.

Sprint PI Planning

When creating a board for sprint PI Planning, the wizard will walk you through the following steps:

  • Sprint - Select details about your sprints, including the original start date, length of sprints, and total number of sprints.

  • Teams - Add teams to the board, or use a team you've already set up. For each team, you will need to select the following:

    • Name - team name

    • Board - the board the team is working from

    • JQL Filter - used to only include issues from specific projects, issue types, etc.

    • Estimation - how work is estimated for the team

    • Default Sprint Limit - how much work can be assigned to each sprint

    • Sprints - which sprint should be used for each sprint location (column) on the board

  • Dependencies -  Select the type of link dependency that will be used for this project. This link type will be used to identify dependency conflicts on the board.

  • General - Provide basic information about the board, including name, description, and owner.

Not sure about an answer? Enter your best estimate - you can edit the configuration later!

Roadmapping

The roadmapping template is used to plan for upcoming fix versions. The wizard will walk you through the following steps:

  • Scope - Select the projects to add issues from, and use a JQL filter to narrow the scope of issues.

  • Columns - Enter information about the fix versions you want to visualize: name your columns and select which fix version values should go in each. (Note: If you want to organize issues by something other than fix version, select a different field.)

  • Swimlanes - Choose how you want to group issues within a column. You can group by an issue field or link type.

  • General - Provide general information about the board:

    • Name

    • Description

    • Estimate Type/Fields - how work is estimated: Story Points, Time Tracking, or Cards (the number of issues in a column)

    • Dependency Link Type - which link type will be visualized on the board and used to identify conflicts in the plan
