Different types of permission, such as administrative, team-management, or time-planning permission, can be granted to different users. Also, users can be given roles, such as team lead, team member, or program lead, which already include certain types of permission.

Who can grant permission or assign a rolePermission or role DescriptionWhere permission is granted
JIRA Administrators

JIRA Administrators permission

  • Permission to perform most JIRA administrative tasks.
  • Permission to perform all Tempo administrative tasks.

Users with JIRA Administrators permission can grant themselves any type of user permission in Tempo Planner.

Administration cogwheel > System > SECURITY Global Permissions

For more information, see Atlassian's documentation.

Browse Users permission

Permission to view lists of JIRA user names and group names and to select users or groups from the lists. Many users might require this permission.

Examples

  • Users with Tempo Team Manager permission (see below) also require Browse Users permission so that they can add members to teams.
  • Many users might require Browse Users permission so that they can reassign issues to other users.
Tempo Administrator permission
  • Permission to perform Tempo Planner administrative tasks that relate to the following areas but only if Tempo Timesheets is also installed:

Other Tempo Planner administrative tasks are restricted to JIRA administrators.

  • Permission to perform some Tempo administrative tasks that are associated with other Tempo products.

Administration cogwheel > Add-ons > TEMPO Tempo Permissions

For more information, see the following topics:

Tempo Team Manager permission

  • Permission to create teams and programs. (A program is a group of teams that are associated with the same JIRA project or the same JIRA Agile board.)
  • Permission to configure and manage all teams and programs.
  • Users with Tempo Team Manager permission automatically receive Browse Team permission and Plan Time permission (see below) for all teams.
  • Tempo Team Manager permission is not sufficient for moving employees between workload or holiday schemes.
  • Tempo Team Managers
  • JIRA Administrators
Team Lead role
  • Permission to configure a team and plan time for the team.
  • Team Leads automatically receive Browse Team permission and Plan Time permission (see below) for their own teams.
  • The Team Lead role is not sufficient for moving employees between workload or holiday schemes or for changing the team lead.

You can specify a team lead when you create a team:

Tempo > TEAMS more > Create New Team

or by configuring basic team information:

Tempo > TEAMS moreteam name > Configuration > Configure > Team Lead

Program Manager role

A program is a group of teams that are associated with the same JIRA project or the same JIRA Agile board.

Program managers gain a high-level overview of the capacity and progress of the teams in a program and can plan epics and product releases for the teams.

However, to create a program or to plan iterations for teams from the program level, Tempo Team Manager permission is required (see above).

Tempo > TEAMS more > Manage > Programs

For more information, see Program of Teams.

  • Team Leads
  • Tempo Team Managers
  • JIRA Administrators
Team Member role
Team members automatically receive Browse Team permission for their own teams (see below).

Tempo > TEAMS more > team name > Configuration > Members

For more information, see Adding team members.

Alternative method:

Tempo > TEAMS more > team name > Planning > Add member to team

For more information, see Giving issues to your team to work on.

Customized roles, such as Developer, Tester, or Scrum Master

By default, team members are assigned the role name Member. However, customized role names, such as Developer, Tester, or Scrum Master, can be assigned to team members.

When you customize role names, the permission that the team members have does not change.

  • JIRA administrators can create customized role names. For information, see Team Roles.
  • Team leads and Tempo team managers can assign role names to team members when they add team members or configure team members.
Browse Team permission
  • Permission to see the team's information and reports.
  • Permission to see planned time for each member of the team.
  • Permission to select this team on forms that contain a Team field (for example, the Team field in an issue).
  • Permission to see this team in the program that contains the team.

All team members automatically receive Browse Team permission for their own teams.

Tempo > TEAMS more > team name > Configuration > Permissions

For more information, see Planner permissions.

Plan Time permission
  • Permission to plan time in Tempo Planner for team members to work on issues.
  • Permission to plan work on the team backlog.
  • Permission to plan time on projects.

Users with Tempo Team Manager permission (see above) can grant themselves Plan Time permission.

Team Leads (see above) automatically receive Plan Time permission for their own teams.

Tempo > TEAMS more > team name > Configuration > Permissions

For more information, see Planner permissions.

Planning in Tempo Timesheets: If Tempo Timesheets is installed, time can also be planned for team members in that product. However, different permission is required there and can be granted by JIRA administrators.

Administration cogwheel > Add-ons > TEMPO Global Configuration > Planning

Time that is planned for individual team members in Tempo Planner is visible in Tempo Timesheets. Similarly, time that is planned in Tempo Timesheets is visible in Tempo Planner.

For more information about planning time in Tempo Timesheets, see the documentation for your version of Tempo Timesheets.
