Billable Hours on Cloud vs Data Center
How is this used?
To differentiate billable time that is logged from the total time that is logged, usually for the purpose of invoicing clients.
What are the differences?
The functionality of billable hours is the same, but the way that the option/permission is set is very different. This may change the way that you work with Jira projects for billable work.
Data Center - the Set Billable Hours option is a Global setting so it’s applied to all Jira projects. There are options to “Turn it on for everyone”, “Turn it on for managers and above”, “Off for everyone”.
Cloud - the Set Billable Hours permission is a Project-level permission. You grant this permission for one or more Jira projects (via a Permission scheme), so the Billable Hours field appears in the Log Time form for only those projects. The Jira admin can grant this permission to specific groups who need to be able to adjust their billable hours.
What are the benefits of Cloud?
You have flexibility on:
Which Jira projects have the Set Billable Hours permission available.
Which groups or team members have the ability to update their Billable Hours.
