How do I migrate from Server to Cloud? | The first step is to do an app assessment to see our Product Comparison between Server and Cloud: Timesheets, Planner. Tempo Budgets and Tempo Cost Tracker for Timesheets are not the same product, but there is a comparison of their features as well. Migrating can be done by using the Jira migration assistant. Can I see how many hours are planned on my Tempo Account? | Natively you can't plan on an account directly. But by planning on issues that are assigned to an account the plan will automatically be assigned to the Tempo Account as well. In Tempo Planner you can pull reports filtered and grouped by Accounts. And with Tempo Timesheets enabled you can easily create a Planned vs Actuals reports for each of your Accounts. See documentation for more information on reports: |
How should I set up my teams as a resource manager for my organization? | Set up your teams, making sure that you have View and Manage Plans permissions in the teams that you will need to manage. See documentation for more information: Your team leads and managers can still plan their work, and you will have a perfect overview on your resources across all teams and be able to take action if necessary. |
How do I approve a plan? | Approving plans can be very useful for companies that want to manage vacation approval, or plan to use a resource from another team, and need the approval of that resource’s team lead. Tempo provides a simple approval workflow. The approval option must be enabled by the Tempo Administrator first. Enabling Plan Approval - Tempo Cloud Enabling Plan Approvals - Data Center In order to approve a plan, the person submitting the plan must chose you as the Reviewer first. In order to be in the Reviewer list, you must have the Approve Plan permission in the Team. If plan approval is being used and changes are made to an approved plan, the plan will be re-submitted to the reviewer for approval and the plan status changes to Pending. As a team lead you get an email notification when a team members sends a plan for approval. Plans can be approved from the UI in the Resource overview as well. How do I do sprint planning? | Sprint planning can be achieved by using/creating dedicated Jira filters and display them in the Tempo Planner resource overview. The filter will show all issues assigned to the Sprint, the remaining estimate, and the planned time for those issues. You can import plans for your estimated issues from Jira, including assignee, due date, and original estimate, into Tempo Planner to view in the resource overview as plans. Can I plan on story points? | Planning on story points is not supported by Tempo Planner. |
Can only Team Leads plan time, or can project managers plan time as well? | Permissions to plan time for others can be dedicated to various users and roles. E.g. resource managers, project managers and similar. This is controlled in the Team’s permissions. However everyone has the possibility to plan time for themselves and this option can't be revoked. Can I plan other than planning per day? | Planned hours are evenly distributed over all working days during the planned period. When you create a plan for a period you have the option to choose between “planned hours per day” and “total hours”. Selecting the “total hours” option will spread the plan activities evenly on each working day for the planned period. |
How do you plan for vacation effectively? | Planning vacation is done against internal issues as we can (still) only plan against Jira issues/projects. There are a few ideas to vote on and please feel free to add your use case: https://ideas.tempo.io/ideas/CTS-I-23 |
Is there a vacation "counter" per employee to see the remaining vacation days per year? | Tempo Planner does not keep track of the amount of vacation days for your company. |
Can I plan on virtual resources? Dummy or placeholder resources for long-term planning? | You can add generic resources to teams and plan time for them. For more information, please take a look at |
How do I do capacity planning? | Capacity planning should be done on a higher level (Epic or project) against users in specific role sets. As an alternative you could also create placeholder Jira users for each role/skill set that you need resources for and need to plan for. These users are set into a workload scheme with 0h. That way the dummy users will show you the correct availability versus the demand of your upcoming initiatives/projects. |
Can I get a planned time report grouped by teams? | Grouping by teams in reports is available on Cloud. It has not been implemented on Server/DC |
Can I plan on Jira projects? | Yes, planning on Jira projects is the best solution for long term planning. You can plan on projects from the Plan Time Form (Cloud) or Planning in the Resource Planning view (Server/DC) You can vote on ideas related to planning on Jira projects: |
Can we plan against a team member skillset ? (ex: assign a resource depending on the skill required for the project) ? | Skills are available on Cloud and the Resource Plannig view can be filtered by it. This allows you to see and plan on users with a specific skill, Adding user skills |
Our team members are split in multiple teams. What is the best way to show their availability for each team when planning? | Actually it is not possible to see the availability/capacity for a specific team only. We have moved away from this approach with the deprecation of the team timeline and the team commitment. Instead we focus on managing resources across teams. |
Where can users see what is planned for them? | Users can always look into the resource plan overview to see what is planned for them. If they have the permission they can also see plans from other team members. My Work Gadget - Tempo Cloud |
How can I plan weekly or monthly events? | We have released recurring weekly and biweekly planning at the moment in Resource Planning view for Cloud. Both Cloud and on-Premise, we also have weekly, biweekly and monthly planning in Team Timeline with Legacy features enabled. |
Is there an integration to other Atlassian tools like Jira Advanced Roadmap, BigPicture or Structure? | Many of our customers use apps in the Atlassian Ecosystem that complement and expand Tempo functionality to achieve a successful outcome. However, we cannot guarantee that future modifications in these apps by their owners will not break the integration. You can use the Tempo REST APIs to synchronize plans from the other third party tools to Tempo Planner. See here for more information about our Complementary Apps. |

What are the future plans for the Team timeline view? | The Tempo vision is to look at (resource) capacity across teams. The resource planning overview allows a more comprehensive view of your organization's resources. But team filtering is still available to reduce the scope to resource that are important to you. |
Is it possible to have an automatic completion of planning when we start a sprint in Jira? For example, as a Scrum master, I want my team associated to issues in my sprint automatically been planned in Tempo so that I don't have to do it manuall. | Not out of the box. You might want to look into this KB article here. |
Does Tempo Planner sync with BigPicture resources? | When you have both plugins installed the Tempo teams can be synced to BigPicture. More detailed information can be found here. |
